It was only last month when Tata Motors confirmed that the Tiago’s list of standard safety features has been enhanced. What the homegrown automaker didn’t announce that its popular hatchback’s list of trim levels has also been altered. Tiago’s latest brochure reveals that the XT trim, which slotted between XM and XZ, is now no longer available. A quick check reveals that all the features that XT had, will now be offered with XZ. That’s because of the newly introduced trim level – XZ (O) – that sits between XZ and XZ+.

In the XZ (O) trim, the Tata Tiago can only be had with a 5-speed manual transmission. To keep the choice of trims which offer AMTs as wide as before, Tata Motors has added the two-pedal setup in the XZ+ trim. The range-topping trim comes with an impressive list of features including a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 15-inch alloy wheels, projector headlamps, an 8-speaker sound system, automatic climate control, a cooled glovebox and auto-folding ORVMs.

As before the AMT is available only with the 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine which is good for 85PS/114Nm. On the other hand, the 1.05-litre, 3-cylinder diesel mill which produces 70PS/140Nm, can only be had with a 5-speed manual transmission.

The Tiago is available in a total of five dual-tone colour options and two single-tone ones. In the former category, the black roof can be had with white, blue, orange, grey and red body colours. The latter one includes silver and brown. The orange and blue shades are available only with the XZ+ trim; the silver shade is not available with XZ+ trim and the grey colour is not offered in the entry-level XE trim.

The Tata Tiago is currently priced between Rs 4.40 lakh and Rs 6.62 lakh Its list of rivals includes the Maruti Suzuki Celerio (Rs 4.31-5.48 lakh) and the Datsun Redi-Go (Rs 3.32-5.17 lakh). What’s noteworthy here is that neither of Tiago’s direct competitors is available with a diesel engine.
