After Duster, the Kwid became Renault India’s second success story. The pocket-friendly hatchback was launched in September 2015. Now, less than four years down the line, the Kwid has surpassed the 3-lakh sales milestone. The car received a mid-life refresh in August last year, while its list of features was updated in February 2019. In April this year, Renault India hiked the prices of the Kwid by up to 3 per cent.

The Kwid is the company’s volume-driver in India. It is currently available in five derivatives – Standard, RXE, RXL, RXT (O) and Climber. Under the bonnet, it can be had with either a 0.8-litre engine or a 1.0-litre mill. Both have three cylinders in their configuration but where the former produces 54PS/72Nm, the latter is good for 68PS/91Nm. While both engines are available with a 5-speed manual transmission, the larger unit can also be coupled with an AMT (automated manual transmission). The two-pedal setup, however, is limited to the RXT (O) and Climber iterations only.

As standard, the Renault Kwid comes with features like a driver’s airbag, ABS with EBD, seatbelt reminder for front seats, speed alert, a gear shift indicator and wheel arch cladding. The range-topping trim brings in gizmos such as a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, video playback and voice recognition, two 12-volt accessory sockets, a fast USB charger, a rear-view camera, front fog lamps and a rear parcel tray.

Renault offers the Kwid in six exterior colours – Red, White, Silver, Bronze, Grey and Blue. The Kwid, apart from claiming the best ride quality, also has the biggest boot (300 litres) and the highest ground clearance (180mm) amongst its rivals. Speaking of which, Renault’s hatch locks horns with the Maruti Suzuki Alto and Datsun Redi-Go.
