Saar: The ‘HyprDrive’ AMT will be offered only in the top-spec variant but with both petrol and diesel engines.

Only a week after revealing the details of the AMT-equipped Nexon SUV, Tata Motors has now begun accepting bookings for the same. The homegrown automaker has officially announced that the Nexon AMT can now be booked at a refundable amount of Rs 11,000. This, of course, can be done either online or by contacting the nearest authorised dealership.

Tata Motors has given a swanky name to its AMT (automated manual transmission) – HyprDrive. It will be offered only in the top-spec trim but with both petrol and diesel engines. The new variant badge, XZA+, and a new dual-tone body colour, orange and silver, on offer will set the AMT-equipped Nexon apart from the rest of its variants. Expect Tata Motors to launch the Nexon AMT early next month and once that happens, the companies first-ever sub-4 metre SUV will become the only one in the country to offer a diesel-automatic combination.

As far as engine specifics are concerned, they remain identical with this new transmission. The 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine is tuned to produce 110PS of power and 170Nm of torque. The diesel, on the other hand, displaces 1.5-litres of fuel and with the help of a turbocharger, it has 110PS of power and 260Nm of torque on tap. The latter of the two engines is the most powerful in the segment. The petrol engine has the most amount of torque of any of the sub-4 metre petrol-fed SUVs but its 110PS of power is 13PS less than the Ford EcoSport. Apart from the ‘HyprDrive’ unit, Tata will continue to offer the same 6-speed manual transmission with the Nexon.

Obviously, the HyprDrive will attract a premium over its manual counterparts. Expect to pay a premium of around Rs 50,000 over the manual XZ+ variants. If this price speculation comes true, the diesel-fed Nexon XZA+ will become the first variant to break the Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) barrier.
