Saar: As expected, it slots right between the XT and the XZ+ variants

Tata Motors has expanded the variant list of its sub-4 metre SUV, the Nexon, by launching the XZ variant. It is now available to order for Rs 7.99 lakh with the petrol engine and Rs 8.99 lakh with the diesel motor (both prices, ex-showroom Delhi). The difference in gadgets between the XT and the XZ+ variants was quite prevalent and with the XZ variant, Tata Motors has tried to deliver a much-needed balance between the former duo.

To put things in perspective, the XT petrol and diesel variants retail at Rs 7.32 lakh and Rs 8.17 lakh respectively (both prices, ex-showroom Delhi). The difference in prices is approximately Rs 67,000 between petrol variants and Rs 82,000 between diesel variants.  So, what does the XZ get over XT? Here’s the list:

  • 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto
  • Reverse camera assist
  • Projector headlamps
  • Height adjustable driver’s seat
  • Height adjustable front seatbelts
  • Voice command recognition
  • Voice alerts
  • 4-tweeters
  • Text and WhatsApp messages readout
  • Image and video playback
  • Drive-away locking feature
  • Fabric inserts on door trims
  • Day/Night IRVM (Interior Rear View Mirror)

If we look at the other end of the scale, the XZ misses out on a few features when compared to the range-topping XZ+ variant. The list includes LED DRLs, alloy wheels, front and rear armrests, 60:40 split folding rear seat, front and rear fog lamps and smart key with push-button start. The difference in price between the XZ and the XZ+ variants is approximately Rs 58,000 and Rs 43,000 between the petrol- and diesel-powered ones respectively. Both those figures go up by Rs 20,000 if we replace XZ+ with XZ+ Dual Tone variants.

We believe that the XZ does, to quite an extend, fill in the gap between the XT and XZ+ variants. And the asking price is good too. But which variant would you choose? Or will you ignore the Tata Nexon altogether and buy one of its competitors? Do let us know in the comments section below.
