Saar: The deliveries of the Outlander will begin towards the end of June 2018.

This has to be either the strangest launches or the worst cover-ups of all time. Mitsubishi Motors India hasn’t confirmed it yet but several dealers have said that the all-new Outlander is priced at Rs 31.54 lakh (ex-showroom India). Since it is being imported as a completely built unit, the ex-showroom prices will be the same across the country. Mitsubishi only released the info about the bookings that have started for the Outlander. The refundable amount is Rs 5 lakh and customers can expect delivery by as early as June end.

Unlike its arch-rivals – the Ford Endeavour, Toyota Fortuner, etc, – the Mitsubishi Outlander will be offered in just one variant. It will come with all the bells and whistles that the company could be bothered to fit. But before we get to the gadgetry and the engine specifics, let’s point out the dimensions of the Outlander. Its length, width and height are clocked at 4,695 mm, 1,810mm and 1,710mm respectively. The wheelbase and the ground clearance is 2,670mm and 190mm respectively. With these dimensions, the Mitsubishi is noticeably smaller than its rivals from Ford and Toyota. That said, the Outlander is considerably lighter on its feet too.

On to the engine front. The Mitsubishi Outlander can be had only with a petrol engine. It is 2.4-litre MIVEC engine that puts out a model 167PS/222Nm. Transmission duties are handled by a 6-speed CVT unit which comes with paddle shifters behind the steering wheel. Power is sent to the road via a 4WD drive system, which has multiple modes – Auto, Eco and Lock. In terms of brakes, the Outlander comes with 16-inch discs in all four wheels, which are also 16-inch in size.

As far as features are concerned, the Outlander comes with 7 airbags, dual-zone automatic climate control, push-button start/stop, electric parking brake and a sunroof. Other features include automatic wipers and headlamps, 6.1-inch infotainment system mated to a 710-watt. 7-speaker Rockford acoustic sound system and LED DRLs. Customers will get a choice of seven body shades to choose from – Black Pearl, Cosmic Blue, Orient Red, Cool Silver, White Solid, White Pearl and Titanium Grey.

Apart from the Ford and Toyota, the Mitsubishi Outlander also takes on the likes of the Volkswagen Tiguan and the Skoda Kodiaq.
