Are you planning to purchase the Tata Harrier? Or have you bought one recently? Well, here’s something that Tata Motors would like you to know. On top of the standard two-year warranty package, you can have a five-year/unlimited km coverage. The company calls it the Pentacare warranty package. Is there a catch or two? There are several. But first, let’s get the numbers game out of the way. The additional warranty coverage costs Rs 25,960. Existing customers should know that they can only buy this add-on if their SUV is less than 90 days old.

So, what does the extra amount get you? For a start, some added peace of mind. Apart from that, all essential maintenance services are covered. When we say essential, we mean critical components such as the engine, transmission, AC and the fuel system, will be looked after. Tata Motors says the extended warranty also covers maintenance and malfunctioning of the clutch and suspension. That, however, is valid only up to 50,000km. Okay, that was a number too. Too and two!

Jokes aside, this optional extra is something that every recent and potential Harrier buyers should consider. Think about it; you can always spec the car up for more comfort, luxury, bling or entertainment. None of those additions, however, will deliver the kind of satisfaction that only an extended warranty period can. For instance, the ludicrously expensive sunroof which costs a whopping Rs 95,100. Question yourself, which add-on makes a more compelling case for itself.

Last month, Tata Motors became the first carmaker in India to add a hashtag to a model’s name. It launched the Harrier #Dark Edition with a price tag of Rs 16.76 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). That’s the same price tag as Harrier’s dual-tone derivatives. Before we enter into the next fiscal, the Harrier family would have received a BS6-compliant powertrain, option of an automatic transmission and a seven-seat iteration.
