Got a Tata Harrier? Or are you planning to buy one? In either case, you can get a sunroof in place. Cost? Rs 95,100. And that doesn’t include the installation charges. If you think that’s expensive, it is. It feels as if Tata Motors is trying to cover up a void left by itself. Customers expect a sunroof as part of the kit, albeit in one trim, from a vehicle which starts at nearly Rs 13 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). As it currently stands, no Tata Harrier variant is available with a sunroof.

So, what about this ludicrously expensive optional extra? It is part of Tata Motors Genuine Accessories portfolio and comes with a two-year warranty. The glass panel, which can be operated electrically, will add some extra flair to the Harrier’s charm. However, the sunroof isn’t panoramic in form. Unfortunately for the Harrier, the MG Hector does come with a massive panoramic sunroof in its top-spec Sharp trim. Although bookings for the Hector are temporarily shut, it is available with a choice of three engine-transmission combinations in its fully-loaded trim.

Frankly, we’ve been expecting an XZ+ trim level for the Harrier. That, we believe, will have a sunroof installed by default. But there’s no news about it yet. What is coming soon is a Dark Edition of the Harrier. As the name suggests, it will be draped in black-coloured elements inside as well as outside. That should add some meanness to the range.

In July this year, Tata Motors introduced two dual-tone colour options for its best-looking SUV. Available only on the top-spec XZ trim, the dual-tone treatment costs Rs 20,000 over and above. Almost a month before, prices for the Harrier were hiked across the range by approximately Rs 31,000. In India, the Harrier locks horns with the MG Hector, Jeep Compass and the recently launched Kia Seltos.
