Remember the H2X Concept from Auto Expo 2020? Yes, that micro SUV from Tata Motors. Well, that has now progressed further in its life cycle and gained a production form. Moreover, it has ditched the H2X codename for its actual one – Punch. So, what you see here is the Tata Punch. At the moment, the homegrown automaker has released just one official photograph and a video. Here’s the latter:

Tata Motors says the Punch will become the fourth SUV in its portfolio. Underpinned by the same platform that also does duty in the Altroz, the Punch is off to a great start. Why? Because that ALFA (Agile Light Flexible Advanced) architecture fared incredibly well in the Global NCAP crash test. Apart from that, the Impact 2.0 design language lends an attractive front end to the car.

The Punch gets a split headlamp design, like the ones on the Harrier and the Safari. Accompanying is a deep-chin, dual-tone bumper that also houses fog lamps. The protective plastic cladding runs across the length of the car, adding to the muscular stance. Even the dual-tone alloys complement the hunky look. Concentrate hard, and you’d notice the handles for the rear doors are part of the C-pillar. Another takeaway from the sole photograph is that the Punch will be offered in dual-tone exterior finishes.

No other details have been revealed at the moment. That means we can take a stroll down the ‘Speculation Street’. Considering that it’ll be even shorter than the subcompact Tigor sedan or the Nexon SUV, the Punch is likely to be a petrol-only offering, just like the Tiago. But, thanks to the ALFA platform, it could have two engine options, both from the Altroz. So, the range will start with the 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine, while variants higher up could have the option of a turbocharged 1.2-litre mill.

So, there you have it. The Tata Punch is on its way. It’ll launch during this year’s festive season. And when that happens, it’ll rival the likes of the Mahindra KUV100, Maruti Suzuki Ignis and the Ford Freestyle.
