Two models – Swift and Ertiga – have become the latest recipients of Maruti Suzuki’s new infotainment system. Dubbed as Smartplay Studio, it debuted with the new WagonR. Naturally, the company claims the new system is an upgrade and is better than the previous version, which was called Smartplay Audio. Here’s the video of the new system:

The new infotainment system has a display size of 7.0 inches. It supports media streaming via various channels, including FM, AM, USB, DRM, Bluetooth and Aux. And before you wonder, the support for smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is available as well. Instead of an in-build navigation system, the new unit boasts NaviMaps which, in addition to online and offline map support, also features real-time traffic, route stops and 3D terrain display.

If all that isn’t enough for you, there’s more. The screen also displays a range of vehicle alerts covering seat belts, mileage, driving range and parking assistance. Opt for the range-topping variants, and the screen gets feed from the rear-view camera as well. Apart from that, the system is smart enough not just to handle conference calls but also read out text messages.

In both models, the new infotainment system is available with the ZXI+ trim level only. The Swift has two ZXI+ variants – MT and AMT (Automated Manual Transmission). If you want the manual, the price is Rs 7.58 lakh. That figure jumps to Rs 8.02 lakh for the two-pedal setup. In Ertiga’s case, there’s only one ZXI+ variant, and that has a sticker price of Rs 9.71 lakh.

On paper, the new infotainment system does seem to offer more than its predecessor. In India, the Maruti Suzuki Swift competes with the likes of the Ford Figo and Hyundai Grand i10 Nios. As for the Ertiga, there’s no direct competition. That said, it does fall right in the same sort of price range as the hugely popular subcompact SUVs such as the Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue and the Ford EcoSport.
