Have you been waiting for Hyundai to reveal the prices of Santro’s BS6-compliant (Bharat Stage 6) CNG variants? Well, the carmaker has finally ended your wait. The dual-fuel setup is available in two derivatives – Magna and Sportz. The former gets a price tag of Rs 5.85 lakh, whereas the latter costs Rs 6.2 lakh, before taxes.

Powering both is the combination of a 1.1-litre petrol engine and a 5-speed manual transmission. When fed with petrol, the power-plant produces 68bhp/99Nm. Those figures drop to 59bhp/85Nm with CNG as the chosen fuel. Surprisingly, in BS6 form, the power and torque figures see an increment of 1bhp and 1Nm, respectively. Hyundai hasn’t revealed the revised mileage number, but it won’t be as high as 30.5km/kg (in BSIV form).

The difference between the prices of the two CNG variants comes courtesy of their list of features. The extra Rs 35,000 gets you additional gizmos such as front fog lamps, keyless entry, wheel covers, turn indicators on ORVMs, a 6.95-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, two extra speakers, voice recognition and electrically-adjustable ORVMs. Is the price gap justifiable? Yes.

However, if you want the Santro in one of its top-spec configurations, you will have to forget the option of a factory-fitted CNG. There are some upsides to doing so. One, the car comes with extra features such as a rear defogger, eco coating tech with the AC, front passenger-side airbag, rear washer with wiper and a rear-view camera. Two, you pay less as the Asta-MT carries a price tag of Rs 5.78 lakh, and the Asta-AMT costs Rs 5.98 lakh. Third, with no CNG kit, you can use the boot space for carrying other stuff.

In India, the Hyundai Santro competes with the Tata Tiago, Datsun Go and three Maruti Suzuki models – Celerio, S-Presso and WagonR. If you had to buy a new small city runabout, which one would it be?

Note: All prices mentioned above are ex-showroom Delhi.
