When Renault India revealed the Triber for the first time in June this year, it listed the option of an AMT (Automated Manual Transmission). At the launch, however, the two-pedal setup was nowhere to be found. If you are amongst the disappointed, then you won’t have to carry that frown for long. Renault India has confirmed the Triber will get the option for an AMT alongside a BS6-ready (Bharat Stage 6) engine. Needless to say, that will happen before we enter the next fiscal.

The versatile Renault Triber is currently available with only a single transmission option – 5-speed manual. The said gearbox comes coupled to a BSIV-compliant 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine which produces 71hp/96Nm. In essence, it is the same engine that powers the Kwid 1.0L. However, the Triber gets 4hp/5Nm more to play with. Renault claims that the Triber can return up to 20kmpl. No matter how you look at it, that’s impressive!

Apart from the clever and flexible seating arrangement, the Triber also can also gulp 625 litres of stuff in the five-seater setup. Although it rides on 14-inch wheels, the car has a ground clearance of 182mm which should come in handy over rough terrains. As far as the list of creature comforts goes, the Triber gets projector headlamps, full LED instrument cluster, dual airbags, ABS with EBD and rear parking sensors as standard.

Opting for the fully-loaded RXZ trim will bring features like four airbags, push-button start-stop, LED DRLs, rear wiper with washer and defogger, a rear-view camera and a total of three 12-volt accessory sockets. Features like two cooled gloveboxes, an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, roof rails, electrically adjustable ORVMs and front & rear skid plates are available from the RXT trim.

The Triber is priced between Rs 4.95 lakh and Rs 6.49 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Within that price bracket, it takes a dig at the Ford Figo, Maruti Suzuki Swift, Nissan Micra and the Toyota Etios Liva. As a seven-seater, the Triber has no direct competition. It places itself between the Datsun Go+ and the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga.
