As of August 1, 2019, Maruti Suzuki had 3,564 sales outlets and 3,704 service workshops across the country. Those numbers and the fact that it sells the most cars every month makes the Indo-Japanese carmaker by far the largest in India. Maruti Suzuki not only wants to hold on to that position but also build on it. And as an enabler, the company has launched ‘Service on Wheels’. As the name suggests, a van with trained technicians and required tools can be dispatched for the customers who either don’t have an authorised workshop nearby or don’t have the time to get their car fixed or serviced.

So, what kind of jobs can these mobile workshops carry out? As per the company, they can carry out both paid and free services. These include repairs, underbody inspection, oil changing and filter cleaning. And, of course, all kinds of petrol, diesel and CNG models can be catered to. Sticking to the colour scheme, Nexa models will be serviced by a black Maruti Suzuki Super Carry whereas those under the Arena umbrella will have a white one.

Here’s what Partho Banerjee, who is the executive director of service at Maruti Suzuki India Ltd., said about this initiative:

We are delighted to announce the addition of Service on Wheels, a unique service for our customers. A workshop built on a four-wheeler is designed to meet the entire service needs of our customers. Customer satisfaction has always been paramount for Maruti Suzuki, and Service on Wheels is a testament to that.

As long as Maruti Suzuki doesn’t charge some sort of “convenience fee” for this service, it is a good initiative to enhance the car ownership experience. If you are a Maruti Suzuki customer and you are tempted to avail ‘Service on Wheels’, we would recommend that you compare the costs involved between the mobile workshop and a physical one. Don’t forget to rope in the fact that for the latter, you will have to spend some money on fuel.
