Renault India doesn’t have a large product portfolio. In fact, it currently sells just four models – Duster, Kwid, Lodgy and Captur. A fifth product will be added to that list on August 28, 2019, in the form of the Triber. Unveiled officially in June this year, the Triber sits in the sub-4 metre segment with a versatile recipe. Official bookings are slated to commence from August 17 and the minimum token amount has been set at Rs 11,000.

To start with, the Triber will be available with a one engine-transmission combination. More precisely, the 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine will come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.  Renault India is also expected to introduce a more powerful engine as well as an AMT (automated manual transmission) for the Triber at a later stage.

Over to the list of features. The Renault Triber will be offered with an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, push-button start-stop, cooled centre console with cup holders, electrically adjustable ORVMs, LED DRLs, full LED instrument cluster with a 3.5-inch MID, keyless entry and four airbags. As standard, the Triber will pack rear parking sensors, dual airbags, ABS with EBD, high-speed warning and seatbelt reminder for front occupants.

The Triber’s real party-piece comes in the versatility section. The Triber has three rows of seats. The second-row can slide, recline and can be folded away with a 60:40 split. Renault claims the Triber is flexible enough to trade space for seats. In other words, it can accommodate a minimum of two and a maximum of seven people. In the five-seater configuration, the Triber has a 625-litre boot. And, the ground clearance is rated at 182mm.

We expect the Triber to become the first BSVI-compliant Renault model. With prices expected to start at around Rs 5 lakh and go all the way up to Rs 8 lakh, the Triber doesn’t have any direct rivals. However, on either side of its expected price range, are seven-seaters such as the Datsun Go+ and the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. In Renault India’s world, the Triber will sit between the Kwid and the Duster.
