Up until now, the Porsche Cayenne range had just one hybrid derivative – the E-Hybrid. That equation, however, is set to change as the German luxury carmaker has unveiled three new hybrid derivatives for the Cayenne’ portfolio. One is called the E-Hybrid Coupé and it is propelled by the same dual-engine setup that does duty in the Cayenne E-Hybrid. The other two are tagged as Turbo S E-Hybrid. The difference between them – one is in the Coupé form and the other has Cayenne’s SUV silhouette.

Let’s start with the Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid Coupé. Powering it is a combination of a 3.0-litre, turbo-petrol engine and an electric motor. The total system output is 456hp/700Nm, all of which is harnessed by 8-speed automatic transmission and fed to the road via an all-wheel-drive system. With the Sport Chrono Package, which is part of the standard kit, the dual-engine Cayenne Coupé can hit 100kmph from a standstill in 5.1 seconds and top out at 253kmph. Porsche claims that the E-Hybrid Coupé can travel up to 43km on electric power alone.

Over to the Turbo S E-Hybrid derivatives. Whether you pick the SUV or the Coupé, the propulsion comes from the combination of a 4.0-litre, twin-turbo V8 and an electric motor. The internal combustion engine is carried over from the Cayenne Turbo S. That means on its own, the engine produces 542hp/700Nm. The electric motor, on the other hand, produces 134hp. The total system output is rated at 671hp/900Nm. Those figures make Turbo S E-Hybrid iterations the most powerful Cayenne models ever. In fact, they also outpower the Lamborghini Urus and the Bentley Bentayga Speed.

Needless to say, the combination of Porsche’s Sports Chrono Package, 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel-drive system are also part of the kit. Both Turbo S E-Hybrid models can sprint from zero to 100kmph in 3.8 seconds and top out at 295kmph. They can also travel up to 40km on electric power alone at speeds of up to 135kmph. The electric motor gets its juices from a 14.1kWh battery, which is located underneath the boot floor.

As far as the list of features is concerned, the new range-toppers get Porsche Connect services, 21-inch alloy wheels, LED headlamps, a rear-view camera, cruise control, wireless mobile charger and auxiliary air conditioning which can be remote-controlled via Porsche Communication Management or through Porsche’s Connect application. Obviously, there’s an options list which includes 22-inch alloy wheels, matrix LED headlamps, rear-wheel steering and a head-up display.

India already has the standard Cayenne E-Hybrid on sale. It was launched alongside its two conventionally-powered siblings in October last year. We know that Porsche India will launch the Cayenne Coupé by the end of this year. But will the E-Hybrid or Turbo S E-Hybrid derivatives will make the cut? Only time will tell. All we can report is that the official website has already listed the Turbo S E-Hybrid models.
