Automobili Pininfarina, the brand which has devoted itself to produce only high-performance, zero-emission, luxury cars, has announced the production name of its first product. The hypercar, which until now was codenamed as PF0, will wear the Battista badge. The name has been chosen to pay homage to Battista ‘Pinin’ Farina who founded the Carrozzeria Pininfarina coachbuilding company in 1930.

Once it makes it world premiere at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, the Pininfarina Battista will become the most powerful Italian performance car ever. Only 150 specimens, 50 per year from 2020 to 2022, of the Battista will ever exist, and each one will be hand-built. The power and torque figures for the fully-electric hypercar stand at 1,926PS and 2,300Nm respectively. That, in conjunction with a super-slippery design, will catapult the Battista to 100kmph in less than 2 seconds and reach a top speed of over 402kmph. Pininfarina claims that powertrain is efficient enough to deliver a range of more than 483km on a single charge.

Here’s what Paolo Pininfarina, who is the chairman at Pininfarina SpA, said in an official statement:

“This is genuinely a dream come true. My grandfather always had the vision that one day there would be a stand-alone range of Pininfarina-branded cars. This hypercar will boast world-beating performance, technology innovation and of course elegant styling.  For me, we simply had to call it Battista. His dream becomes reality today as we link our glorious past with the future of motoring.”

During this year’s Monterey Car Week, Automobili Pininfarina did showcase the PF0 Concept hypercar in the flesh to a few sets of eyes. Most of the attendants at the exclusive unveiling event included super-rich VIPs and select journalists. The Mahindra-owned firm recently made an investment of 20 million euros in a partnership with Pininfarina SpA. The latter will be responsible for design, development and production of Pininfarina Battista and future range of Automobili Pininfarina cars at its headquarters in Cambiano near Turin, Italy.

For the powertrain, Automobili Pininfarina has inked a commercial partnership with Rimac Automobili. The latter is known the world over for its prowess in pure-electric performance cars. The Pininfarina Battista will be available to order from late 2020 at an estimated price between 2-2.5 million USD. 50 cars are currently reserved for the USA, 50 for Europe and 50 for the Middle East and the rest of Asia.
