India’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki is all set to introduce the all-new WagonR on January 23, 2019. To get the numbers rolling, the company has commenced the bookings process for the new-gen tallboy. If you are amongst the interested, you can reserve one for yourself by paying a minimum token amount of Rs 11,000. You can do so by either visiting the nearest Maruti Suzuki Arena dealership or via the company’s official website.

The new WagonR is underpinned by Maruti Suzuki’s HEARTECT platform. In other words, it carries the same sort of skeleton as some of its bigger siblings such as the Swift, Baleno and even the Ertiga. The new platform has not only shaved off considerable kilograms over its predecessor and given the WagonR more room to play with but also more strength in its DNA. The new WagonR will be roomier for passengers and it will be able to gulp more luggage than before.

Courtesy of the new underpinnings, the WagonR will also be sold with the same 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine that does duty in the Ignis. The motor is tuned to produce 83PS of power and 113Nm of torque. If that’s not what you want, the new WagonR also carries forward its 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol mill which produces 68PS/90Nm. Both engines can be had with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT (automated manual transmission).

When it comes to the list of features, the new WagonR will be a lot more enticing than its predecessor. As standard, the hatchback will feature ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, front-seat belts reminder, speed alert system and a driver’s side airbag. If you can spend more, the WagonR can be had with gizmos such as a multi-function steering wheel, passenger-side airbag, a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, fog lamps and electrically adjustable and foldable OVRMs.

Maruti Suzuki will sell the new WagonR in a total of seven variants, three (Lxi, Vxi and Vxi AGS) with the 1.0-litre engine and four (Vxi, Vxi AGS, Zxi and Zxi AGS) with the 1.2-litre engine. The car will be available in a total of six exterior colours – Pearl Poolside Blue, Pearl Nutmeg Brown, Magma Grey, Pearl Autumn Orange, Silky Silver and Superior White.

The outgoing version of the Maruti Suzuki WagonR is priced between Rs 4.15 – 5.39 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The new iteration of it is expected to cost between Rs 4.3-5.6 lakh. In India, the new WagonR will renew its rivalry with the likes of the Hyundai Santro, Datsun Go and the Tata Tiago.
