Saar: In addition to a few cosmetic tweaks, the updated model will also bring the new generation of petrol and diesel engine.

Have you been eyeing to put your money on one of the premium executive saloons currently available in India? You must wait a little longer since Mercedes-Benz India will be launching the C-Class facelift on September 20, 2018. The changes aren’t just limited to the looks. The refreshed model will actually debut Mercedes-Benz’ new generation of petrol and diesel engines in India.

Let’s start with the updated powertrains. The updated C 200 variant will house a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol unit. Don’t let the smaller cubic capacity put you off because even though the new engine has nearly 500cc less to play with, it produces 184PS of power and 280Nm of torque. Compared to the outgoing C 200, that’s a deficit of just 20Nm. In international markets, this engine comes mated to a mild-hybrid system (EQ Boost) that essentially eradicates the turbo-lag to deliver a linear power delivery.

On the diesel front, the variant list will start with the C 220d moniker. The 2.0-litre turbocharged mill is more powerful than before, with 194PS/400Nm on tap. For those who want more powerful engines, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class facelift will also be available in C 300 and C 300d variants. While the former is powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol motor with 258PS/370Nm at its disposal, the latter gets a twin-turbo version of the 2.0-litre diesel motor with 245PS/500Nm on tap. All the engines will come mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission. Inevitably, the AMG-spec C 43 will also make its way into India.

As far as the cosmetic changes are concerned, the C-Class facelift gets the diamond grille, new LED headlamps and LED DRLs and a new front bumper. The exterior has also been upgraded with a set of new alloy wheels, revised ORVMs, tweaked rear bumper and new taillamp enclosures. Inside the cabin, the car will come with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, optional 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment over the standard 7.0-inch unit and a new steering wheel.

With an enhanced feature-list and new engines on offer, the C-Class facelift will cost more than the outgoing version. Expect the price-list to start at around Rs 42 lakh and go all the way up to Rs 48 lakh for the range-topping, most-powerful diesel variant. Once launched, it will renew its rivalry with the BMW 3 Series, Audi A4 and the Jaguar XE.
