You’ve seen it (in pictures). You’ve read about it. Now, you’ll know how much it costs. The refreshed Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza starts at Rs 7.34 lakh and goes up to Rs 11.40 lakh, before taxes. The subcompact SUV has ditched diesel to become a petrol-only model. Compared to the previous prices, the entry-level variant costs about Rs 30,000 less. However, the petrol-powered range-topper is almost Rs 80,000 dearer than the fully-loaded diesel-AMT from before. Here’s how the new price list looks like:

There are a couple of crucial aspects which help decode the price list. To gain the sops for a sub-4 metre passenger vehicle, the carmaker has to fit it with a petrol engine not exceeding 1.2 litres in cubic capacity. The SUV here has the same 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder engine that also does duty in the Ciaz, Ertiga and the XL6. The motor produces 103bhp/138Nm and comes with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic. The latter gearbox contributes to bumping up the price as unlike the previous model, which had an AMT, the facelift gets a torque converter.

As far as mileage figures are concerned, the petrol-MT combination is capable of 17.03kmpl whereas the petrol-AT configuration can go as high as 18.76kmpl. So, you might wonder, how has Maruti Suzuki managed to make the latter of the two powertrains more frugal? The simple answer: mild-hybrid system. Only variants with a two-pedal setup get the fuel-saving technology.

On the features front, the refreshed Vitara Brezza offers a decent package as standard. The list includes projector headlamps, a rear spoiler, turn indicators on OVRMs (also electrically foldable), ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, dual airbags, ISOFIX anchorages, central locking and front seatbelt pre-tensioners and force limiters. Opt for the fully-loaded trim, and the list of gizmos expands with stuff like a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, sliding front centre armrest with storage, auto-headlamps and wipers, auto-folding ORVMs, LED-powered fog lamps and projector headlamps, and a rear-view camera.

In India, the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza competes with the Hyundai Venue, Ford EcoSport, Mahindra XUV300 and the Tata Nexon. If you had to choose one, what would it be?
