Using the Auto Expo 2020 as the platform, Maruti Suzuki has taken the wraps off the refreshed Ignis and the Vitara Brezza. Alongside their cosmetically tweaked recipes, both models have also gained BS6-compliant (Bharat Stage 6) powertrains. If you want to book either one of them, it is possible by paying a minimum token amount of Rs 11,000. As before, the Ignis will retail from Maruti Suzuki’s Nexa range of premium dealerships and the Vitara Brezza will find space under the Arena umbrella. The duo will get their price lists before April 1, 2020.

Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza

In the design department, the changes include restyled front and rear bumpers, faux bull-bar and skid plate, a chrome bar between the headlamp enclosures and new 16-inch dual-tone alloy wheels. The headlamps boast LED projector units alongside more prominent LED DRLs and turn indicators. Even the taillamps are now full LED. Indoors, the changes include new fabric for the seats and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.

Maruti Suzuki has also added a few additional features, including auto-dimming IRVM, auto-folding ORVMs and the updated 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system which comes with live traffic information and embedded navigation system. As far as colour options go, there are three new dual-tone finishes available – Sizzling Red with Black roof, Torque Blue with Black roof and Granite Grey with Orange roof.

The most significant difference between the facelift and the previous version is under the bonnet. By ditching the diesel-only mantra, the Vitara Brezza is now petrol-only. Powering it is the same 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine with mild-hybrid tech which also does duty in the Ciaz and the Ertiga. It produces 103bhp/138Nm and is available with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission. That means there’s no AMT on offer any more. As far as mileage figures are concerned, the Vitara Brezza returns up to 17.03kmpl and 18.76kmpl with manual and automatic gearboxes, respectively.

Maruti Suzuki Ignis

Like the Vitara Brezza, the Ignis facelift boasts a few styling changes both on the inside and outside. The front and rear bumpers are new with integrated faux skid plates. Between the mad-looking headlamps is a new grille design with U-shaped motifs. Indoors, there’s a dual-tone theme with new fabric for seats. And yes, the refreshed Ignis also gets the same infotainment system as the Vitara Brezza. Maruti Suzuki has also injected a couple of new customisation options, named Acropolis and Scorcher. Also, the Ignis facelift comes with three new dual-tone colour options – Nexa Blue with Black roof, Lucent Orange with Black roof and Nexa Blue with Silver roof.

The main difference is under the bonnet. Earning a BS6-compliant tag for the hatchback is the same 1.2-litre petrol engine (82bhp/113Nm) that also serves the Swift. As standard, it comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. However, the option of an AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) is also up for grabs.

With these two models joining the Maruti Suzuki’s BS6 bandwagon, only the S-Cross remains to do the same. That will happen sometime next month.
