Here’s some worrisome news for those who were eyeing to purchase a Maruti Suzuki car. The model you were after might have received a bump in the asking price as India’s largest carmaker has, with immediate effect, increased the prices of some select models by up to Rs 10,000 (ex-showroom Delhi). The company, in an official statement, said that this step has been taken to counterbalance the effects of increased commodity prices and foreign exchange rates.

Maruti Suzuki sells a wide range of cars via its Arena and Nexa range of dealerships. Later this month, the carmaker will launch the all-new WagonR. As before, the model will retail via Maruti Suzuki’s Arena dealerships and will be offered with two petrol engine options – a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder mill and a 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder motor. It is believed that before the current fiscal year ends, Maruti Suzuki will introduce the mid-life update of the Baleno hatchback. The said model will receive minor styling changes inside and out as well as a revised list of features. Mechanically, however, it is unlikely to change. The Baleno marque is one of the four others which are retailed via the Nexa range of premium dealerships.

Later in the year, Maruti Suzuki is expected to introduce an all-new small car. In other words, an updated version of the Alto. That model will take on the likes of the Renault Kwid, Datsun Go and the Hyundai Santro. Apart from introducing new models in India, the company will also be busy pulling the plug on models which can’t be feasibly updated to meet the new safety norms that will come into effect from April this year. That list will include the Omni van and the iconic Gypsy.
