Saar: You can now book the Mahindra Alturas G4 with a minimum booking amount of Rs 50,000.

We have a date change. The Mahindra Y400, which was earlier slated to launch on November 19, 2018, will now launch on November 24, 2018. Actually, we also have a name change. The tag Y400 was a codename for the SUV but Mahindra has confirmed that its new flagship passenger vehicle will actually carry the name Alturas G4. Many believed that since it will sit above the XUV500, the Y400 could actually carry the tag XUV700.

So, why name the new SUV as Alturas? Veejay Nakra, who is the chief of sales and marketing at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., says:

“The word Alturas means ‘height’ or ‘pinnacle’. The Alturas G4 represents a gateway into luxury for those who have reached the pinnacle of success in their lives. Being our most luxurious offering, exquisitely designed and crafted, we believe that the Alturas G4 name perfectly describes this product.”

It isn’t a secret anymore that the Mahindra Alturas G4 is actually a SsangYong Rexton underneath. Mahindra took the Rexton, tweaked its recipe for Indian conditions, changed the look and feel of the thing and replaced the Rexton tag with Alturas G4. The company is yet to reveal any confirmed set of specifications but many believe that it will house a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel mill with over 180PS of power and around 400Nm of torque. The engine will be BS VI-compliant and will come mated to a Mercedes-Benz-sourced 7-speed automatic transmission only. Mahindra has confirmed that the Alturas G4 will be offered in five colours – New Pearl White, Napoli Black, Lakeside Brown, Dsat Silver and Regal Blue.

SsangYong Rexton (Mahindra Alturas G4)

The Mahindra Alturas G4 will be offered with both two- and four-wheel-drive systems. That’s the kind of norm we have going on in the segment it will fall in. The upcoming SUV will compete with the heavyweights like the Ford Endeavour, Toyota Fortuner, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and the recently launched Isuzu MU-X facelift. As far as pricing is concerned, the Mahindra Alturas G4 is likely to undercut almost all its rivals. The homegrown automaker has also started accepting bookings for it with a minimum booking amount of Rs 50,000.
