After launching the all-new Evoque in India later this month, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) will introduce the refreshed Discovery Sport in a couple of weeks. The launch date is February 13, 2020. Globally, the model debuted in May last year. That means India will get it within nine months of the world premiere. If you think that’s not impressive, then get this – the time difference between the global unveiling of the new Evoque and its India launch date is well over a year. Are you feeling better about the Discovery Sport’s case already?

Like the recently launched Jaguar XE facelift and the upcoming Evoque, the Land Rover Discovery Sport will arrive BS6-ready (Bharat Stage 6). JLR India will offer the refreshed model with the same powertrain options as the new Evoque. That means there will be two 2.0-litre, Ingenium engines on offer – one petrol and diesel each – and both will come coupled to a 9-speed automatic transmission as well as an all-wheel-drive as standard. As far as power/torque figures are concerned, the petrol offers 247bhp/365Nm, and the diesel generates 177bhp/430Nm.

Performance numbers? With the petrol-powered engine under the bonnet, the SUV can hit 100kmph from a standstill in 7.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 224kmph. Those figures, in the same order, for the diesel engine are 10.1 seconds and 201kmph. All those numbers are for the Discovery Sport with a seven-seat layout. That’s what should be on offer in India.

As standard, the Land Rover Discovery Sport will pack stuff like a 10-inch Touch Pro infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, auto headlamps and wipers, ambient lighting, cruise control with speed limiter, a rear-view camera, an electronic parking brake, two-zone climate control and All-Terrain Progress Control. The range-topping variants will rope in features like a fully-digital instrument cluster, Meridian sound system, 14-way electrically-adjustable front seats with memory function, a powered tailgate, ClearSight interior rear-view mirror and keyless entry.

Even though the refreshed Discovery Sport will cost more than it did in the pre-facelift form, it will remain the entry-level point for Land Rover customers. Once launched, it will rival the likes of the Audi Q5, Volvo XC60, BMW X3 and the Mercedes-Benz GLC.
