Like all other automakers in the country, Kia Motors India is slowly getting back on track. And just to keep the momentum going, the company has introduced some noticeable revisions to its best-seller – the Seltos. Lower trims of the compact SUV now come with better levels of equipment. Additionally, the model gets new features which enhance the safety, convenience, connectivity and design aspects. And, Kia has axed two variants from the GT Line – the GTK-MT and GTX-DCT. Prices for the updated Kia Seltos range start at Rs 9.89 lakh and go up to Rs 17.34 lakh, before taxes. Although both those figures haven’t changed, most of the others have. Here’s the proof:

That is one long list. Apologies if that looks a bit complicated! The whole point is that prices for most of the variants have increased between Rs 10,000 and Rs 30,000. And before you wonder, there are no mechanical changes to report. So, how has Kia tried to justify the hiked prices?

Design

The overall shape and most of the trim pieces remain unaltered. However, if you purchase the Seltos in any HTK+/HTX/HTX+/GTX /GTX+ variants, it will come with a slightly tweaked rear bumper. Out the lot, the HTX+ and GTX+ trim levels are now available with dual-tone paint shades, including a new one – Orange body with White roof. Indoors, all the X and X+ variants get a silver finish on the climate control panel. The HTX and HTX+ trim levels rope in scuff plates for all passenger doors, whereas the HTK+ derivatives now come with leatherette finish on the gear knob and printed dashboard design.

Features

No matter which version of the Kia Seltos you pick, it will pack additional features as standard. That includes remote engine start, emergency stop signal and two USB charging points. The HTX and GTX variants now pack sunroof as well. The company has also upgraded the list of features that the UVO system offers. It now comes with smartwatch app connectivity, control for air-purifier, can share live cricket scores and provide details about Indian holidays. Also, you can wake the system up by saying “Hello Kia”. These new creature comforts are available in all X and X+ variants.

So, there you have it. With the upgraded list of features, the Seltos becomes even more enticing. In India, it competes with the Nissan Kicks, Tata Harrier and its step-sibling – the Hyundai Creta. Do you think the increased prices are a bit too steep?
