Life is slowly getting back to normal. That said, “normal” has an all-new meaning now! And that’s true for everyone, regardless of the industry they cater. In the automobile world, all players have started gaining traction. Hyundai Motor India Ltd. (HMIL), which is the second-largest carmaker in the country, recommenced production on May 8, 2020. And to aid car buyers, the company also introduced some enticing financing solutions. That helped in garnering some good domestic numbers.

But what about the exports? Only in May this year, HMIL has exported over 5,000 units. That’s not bad considering the amount of trouble India has witnessed due to COVID-19. In the current calendar year, a total of 1,81,200 Hyundais in 792 different variants have left Indian shores for other markets. That number helped HMIL carve a 26 per cent share in the passenger cars exports from India.

For a more wholesome picture, one must rope in Hyundai’s lifetime export figures from India. In the last twenty years, it has shipped north of 3 million vehicles to 88 countries. Quick math reveals that on average, Hyundai exported 1,50,000 cars every year during that period. And that figure is only going up. Out of the 88 countries, 33 are in Latin America, 28 are in Africa, 26 are in the Asia Pacific and 1 in Europe. And which models fill the export business? Nearly all of them.

The model we know as Santro goes out of India as the Atos. Exports also include the new Creta, Venue, Accent (Verna), Elite i20, i20 Active, Xcent, Grand i10, Grand i10 (Nios) and Grand i10 (Aura). All-in-all, HMIL has deep roots on Indian soil. Not only is it only the key players in the mass-market space but also aids the Indian economy by catering to other markets in the world.
