About a month ago, we reported that upcoming Jaguar I-Pace might be offered in three trim levels. And yes, that is the case — more on that in a bit. The Indian arm of the British carmaker is now accepting bookings for the EV (Electric Vehicle) in question. Due to the logistical constraints (courtesy of COVID-19 outbreak) and the fact that the car will arrive via the CBU (Completely Built Unit) route, Jaguar India says deliveries should commence from March 2021.

The company has devised a total of three derivatives – S, SE and HSE. Each one of them will get the same, pure-electric powertrain. That consists of two electric motors, one for each axle, and a single-speed transmission. The total output is rated at 395bhp/696Nm, which is enough for a 0-100kmph sprint time of 4.8 seconds and a top speed of 200kmph. Those figures are nothing to frown about, especially when you consider that the I-Pace weighs more than 2.1 tonnes unladen.

Feeding both electric motors with the required juices is a 90kWh lithium-ion battery. According to the WLTP (Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicles Test Procedure), the I-Pace can travel up to 470km on a single charge. The zero-emissions car supports both AC (slow) and DC (fast) charging. Using a 7kW charger, the I-Pace will take at least thirteen hours to replenish the battery completely. Plug it to a 50kW DC feed, and it can gain 63km of range in fifteen minutes of charging time. If you can find a 100kW charging feed, the I-Pace will double that range in the same amount of time.

As you’d expect, the upcoming EV will be handsomely equipped. Even the least-expensive version will have a 400-watt, 12-speaker Meridian sound system, Pivi Pro infotainment system, cruise control, 19-inch alloy wheels, LED headlamps, a 3D surround camera and a powered tailgate. Go for the range-topper, and the list of features will include Matrix LED headlamps with DRLs, gesture-controlled powered tailgate, a head-up display, 16-way electric seats with heating, cooling and memory function, and adaptive cruise control.

Somewhat predictably, Jaguar has joined forces with Tata Power to provide office and home charging solutions in India. Under the ‘EZ Charge’ project, Tata Power has already installed over 200 charging points across the country. The I-Pace will lock horns with India’s first luxury EV – the Mercedes-Benz EQC. Soon, Audi will join the party with the e-tron.
