The Jaguar I-Pace. It has been a long time coming. But, will the wait soon come to an end? Based on the recent activity of Jaguar’s India website, we’d like to think so! The British brand has listed all the information about the upcoming EV, including the trim levels. It has devised a total of three derivatives – S, SE and HSE. As you’d expect, the I-Pace will take the CBU (Completely Built Unit) route to arrive in India.

Propelling the I-Pace are a couple of electric motors, one for each axle. Put together, they produce 395bhp/696Nm. And, of course, they give birth to an all-wheel-drive system as well. For transmission, Jaguar has slotted in a single-speed unit. Although the I-Pace weighs more than 2.1 tonnes (unladen), it can still hit 100kmph from nothing in 4.8 seconds. The top speed is 200kmph.

The I-Pace gets its juices from a 90kWh lithium-ion battery, which is enough for a WLTP-certified range of 470km on a single charge. As for charging, one can opt for both AC (slow) and DC (fast) electricity feeds. Jaguar says that when using a 7 kW charger, the I-Pace will take at least thirteen hours to completely replenish the battery. That, of course, depends on several aspects, including the charge left and temperature conditions. Else, the I-Pace can gain up to 63km of range in fifteen minutes, via a 50kW DC charger. Similarly, a 100kW DC feed will double the range (126km) in the same time frame.

Features? They will depend on the trim chosen. The least-expensive variant will pack stuff like a 400-watt, 12-speaker Meridian sound system, Pivi Pro infotainment system, a powered tailgate, LED headlamps, cruise control, a 3D surround camera and 19-inch alloy wheels. At the other end of the scale, the list of features is predictably more extensive. The add-ons include Matrix LED headlamps, gesture-controlled powered tailgate, electrically-operated ORVMs with heating and memory functions, a 16-speaker Meridian sound system and adaptive cruise control.

By the time it arrives in India, the I-Pace will already have a direct competitor – the Mercedes-Benz EQC. Expect Audi to join the all-electric luxury car space in India as well. The German carmaker will introduce the e-tron SUV.
