Were you planning to purchase the MG Gloster? There’s a bit of bad news for you. Morris Garages India has shelved the SUV’s introductory price list. The new one says that prices have hiked by up to Rs 1 lakh. Here, check out the latest prices in comparison to the old ones:

It is the entry-level derivative that has received the maximum increase in price. With the launch prices, the idea was simple – get an attractive starting price tag. On the other end of the scale, the range-topping variant is now Rs 20,000 dearer. Not sure what to do? Perhaps, comparing the revised prices with the competition products will help.

Both the Alturas G4 and the Endeavour are available with one engine-transmission option. The undisputed king of the segment – the Fortuner – is the only one here with petrol and diesel engine options. And, if you’re ready to compromise serious off-road capability in favour of quality, you can consider the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace. That is available in just one variant, which costs Rs 33.25 lakh. Another petrol-powered alternative is the Honda CR-V, which is also available in a Special Edition this festive season.

The Gloster has its own set of plusses over others. To start with, it has size on its side. Then there’s the twin-turbocharged engine. With 215bhp/480Nm on offer, it is by far the gutsiest in that price range. MG Motor India’s flagship also offers a bunch of segment-first features, including Forward Collision Warning, wireless mobile charging, PM 2.5 filter, Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning, massage seats, Blind Spot Detection and Driver Fatigue Reminder System. Also, Gloster is the only one to offer an array of connected-car features.

With all those facts and figures in place, which full-sized SUV would you pick? Would you take one that can handle the rough stuff? Or, would you choose the Volkswagen or the Honda?
