After launching the Amaze Special Edition, Honda Cars India has now introduced the CR-V Special Edition. Priced at Rs 29.5 lakh, it costs about Rs 1.23 lakh more than the standard car. To justify that extra amount, Honda has specced the CR-V Special Edition with more features. More evidently, however, the newly launched variant looks reminiscent of the CR-V facelift which is on sale in several international markets.

The CR-V Special Edition boasts new front and rear bumpers, a blacked-out grille, different 18-inch alloy wheels, illuminated door sills, a running board, front parking sensors and LED headlamps with DRLs & active cornering lights. Honda has also fitted it with LED front fog lamps, auto-folding ORVMs, 4-way power assistant for the front passenger seat and a powered, hands-free tailgate. So, is all that worth the extra money? For once in a Honda, yes.

Apart from the features mentioned above, the CR-V Special Edition also packs stuff like a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone climate control, 8-way powered driver’s seat, auto-dimming IRVM and cruise control. The SUV also packs ambient lighting, Hill Start Assist, six airbags, tilt and telescopic steering adjust, rain-sensing wipers and push-button start/stop.

Under the bonnet is the same 2.0-litre i-VTEC engine that produces 152bhp/189Nm, and comes mated to a CVT. As per Honda, the mileage figure can go as high as 14.4kmpl. Honda’s offering the CR-V Special Edition in five colours – Golden Brown, Titanium White Pearl, Modern Steel Pearl, Radiant Red and Lunar Silver.

Apart from falling in the same sort of price range as the Ford Endeavour and the Toyota Fortuner, the Honda CR-V also faces heat from the Hyundai Tucson from one end and the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace from the other. Soon, models like the BS6-compliant (Bharat Stage 6) Isuzu MU-X and the Skoda Kodiaq will join the party.
