It seems Hyundai is not just in a bit of hurry but rushing through this marketing campaign of the Verna facelift. The official set of developments starting unfolding on Monday, March 9, 2020, when the company released three teaser images. Yesterday, the carmaker confirmed what all features under the Blue Link tech would the sedan pack. And now, the car in question has stepped out of the darkness. Behold! What you see here is the refreshed Hyundai Verna. Bookings are now open, with the minimum token amount set at Rs 25,000.

As expected, the changes on the outside include a new front end, a revised rear (mostly down to the reprofiled tail lamps and a skid plate) and dual-tone alloy wheels. Hyundai has yet to reveal the interiors of the car. Concentrate a bit hard on the images, and you could spot one particular aspect of the car’s cabin – a dual-tone theme. At the pace Hyundai is going, we could see the interiors by tomorrow! Anyway, here’s the list of variants:

There are three engines and four transmission options. Between them, there are five engine-transmission combinations on offer. Four come from the new Creta, and one from the Venue. The former category includes a 1.5-litre petrol engine with a 6-speed manual or an IVT (Hyundai’s version of a CVT) and a 1.5-litre diesel mill with a 6-speed MT or a 6-speed torque converter. Both motors produce 113bhp, but where the petrol has 144Nm of torque, the diesel churns out 250Nm. The latter category has the 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbo-petrol engine (118bhp/172Nm), mated to a 7-speed DCT (Dual Clutch Transmission).

In the features department, Hyundai says that the Verna facelift will give the competition a headache. In addition to the 45 connected features, which come with Blue Link tech, the sedan gets a smart trunk, ventilated front seats, Eco coating, rear USB charger, cruise control, LED DRLs, wireless phone charger and Arkamys sound system. The Verna promises to stay ahead of the pack with the list of features also including automatic climate control, a digital cluster with colour TFT, support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, rain-sensing wipers and a cooled glovebox.

Hyundai could offer the Verna facelift with the same flexible warranty schemes that it provides with cars like the Grand i10 Nios. That includes three types of standard coverage – 3 years/1,00,000km, 4 years/50,000km and 5 years/40,000km. As far as colour options are concerned, there are six to choose from – Phantom Black, Fiery Red, Polar White, Typhoon Silver, Titan Grey and Starry Night. Once launched, the refreshed Verna will lock horns with the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Volkswagen Vento, Toyota Yaris and the Honda City, which is due for a generation change this year.
