If we don’t include the BS6 (Bharat Stage 6) upgrades, Hyundai has already introduced two new offerings in 2020. After revealing the price list of the Aura sedan, the South Korean carmaker launched the Grand i10 Nios Turbo for go-fast hatchback enthusiasts. And in a week, we’ll also know the prices of the new Creta. What about the Verna? Well, that’s due for a facelift and what you see here are the first set of pictures (teaser images to be precise) that Hyundai has officially revealed.

As you can see, or can’t, not everything in these images is clear. What is, however, that the refreshed Verna will get a new front end, comprising of a wider grille, new headlamps and a restyled bumper. The side profile looks more or less similar, whereas the at the rear there are reprofiled taillamps.

Do you think Hyundai has been a bit more lenient about revealing Verna’s list of features? Well, it has confirmed that the sedan will boast a smart trunk (that’s probably the hands-free boot opening), wireless charging, ECO coating, luggage net and hooks, rear USB charger and an Arkamys-certified sound system. You can easily include projector headlamps, LED DRLs, cruise control and ventilated seats at the front.

Design, done (somewhat!). Features, done (more or less!). What about the powertrains? The Verna facelift will borrow two engine-transmission combinations from the Creta and one from the Venue. Hyundai will offer a 1.5-litre petrol, a 1.5-diesel and 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engines with the refreshed sedan. The former two will come mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard, whereas the remaining one will only come with a 7-speed DCT. Hyundai will offer a couple of 1.5-litre variants with an IVT (petrol) and a 6-speed torque converter (diesel).

Hyundai could launch the Verna facelift by the end of the month. If that’s the plan, expect bookings to open around Creta’s launch date. In India, the Verna will compete with the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Honda City, Toyota Yaris, Volkswagen Vento and the Skoda Rapid. Based on what you can see, how do you like the refreshed Verna?
