Are you planning to purchase a Santro? Maybe you’re in for a Grand i10 Nios? If your answer is yes to either of those questions, then this piece will probably make you think harder. Don’t take that in a derogatory manner! All Hyundai has done is silently expanded the range of both those hatchbacks.

Santro first. The least-expensive Hyundai now gets the option of an AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) in the range-topping Asta trim. Wearing a price tag of Rs 6.25 lakh, the newly introduced derivative costs about Rs 47,000 more than the Asta-MT. When compared to the AMT-equipped Magna and Sportz variants, the Asta-AMT costs nearly Rs 73,000 and Rs 27,000 more, respectively. Before you wonder, there are no mechanical differences amongst all three AMT variants. The cost difference comes courtesy of the features list.

Now, Nios. When Hyundai launched the ‘Turbo’ variants of the hatchback in question last month, it also revealed the specifications of the factory-fitted CNG setup. Now, we have the prices. The dual-fuel configuration is available in two variants – Magna-MT and Sportz-MT. The former gets a price tag of Rs 6.63 lakh, and the latter costs Rs 7.16 lakh. Hyundai has also added the option of an AMT in the Asta trim. That variant costs Rs 7.67 lakh, which is a few hundred bucks short of the Turbo Sportz-MT derivative.

The entire line-up of both hatchbacks complies with the stricter BS6 (Bharat Stage 6) emission norms. Later this month, Hyundai will launch the new Creta. Rumours are that before March 2020 comes to an end, India will also get the refreshed Verna with BS6-compliant engines. Other Hyundai models in the pipeline include the Tucson facelift and the all-new i20. As far as model discontinuation is concerned, the i20 Active disappeared from Hyundai’s website last month. The Grand i10 and the Xcent await the same fate?
