Saar: A Smoke Grey-coloured Ford Freestyle, that was handed over to a Delhi customer, marked this feat for the carmaker in India.

Ford India delivered the one-millionth car to a customer in Delhi today. The car was the newest addition to the Figo family – the Ford Freestyle. Nikhil Kakkar took the keys to his Smoke Grey-coloured toughened hatchback from Anurag Mehrotra, who is the managing director of Ford India Pvt. Ltd. He, along with the buyer, was part of a special celebratory ceremony that took place at Dwarka Ford, the dealer that sold the car.

In a press release, Mehrotra said:

“We are proud and excited to reach One million customers in India and remain indebted to our customers for their faith and trust. Our unrelenting focus on India strategic pillars – strong brand, right products, competitive cost and effective scale – continue to ensure that we grow faster than the industry & bring more customers to the Ford family.”

Ford launched the Freestyle compact utility vehicle (CUV) in April this year, at a starting price of Rs 5.09 lakh (ex-showroom India). It is available in four variants – Ambiente, Trend, Titanium and Titanium+. All four are available with either a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine that produces 100PS/215Nm and a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder turbo-petrol motor which generates 96PS/120Nm. Both are offered with a 5-speed manual transmission only.

Ford India Triggers Voluntary Recall For EcoSport

In May this year, Ford added a couple of variants in the EcoSport’s line-up. Later this year, the company will be launching the mid-life updates of the Figo hatchback and the Figo Aspire sedan, both of which have already broken cover in the South African market. Early next year, Ford will be bringing the Endeavour facelift to India. The refreshed Endeavour, which is sold as the Everest in several international markets, has already gone on sale in Thailand. It gives us a good platform for what to expect when it arrives on our shores.

Ford has been in India since 1998. Based on rough calculations, the American carmaker took 20 years to reach the milestone of delivering 10 lakh cars.
