Saar: Apart from some cosmetic changes, they come with an enhanced feature list too.

During the launch of the Q5 petrol, which happened on June 28, 2018, Audi India confirmed that it will be launching two special editions of the Q3 and the Q7 SUVs. Well, they have arrived. Tagged as Design Editions, they boast some cosmetic changes in addition to an enhanced feature list. The Design Editions of the Q3 and Q7 have been priced at Rs 40.76 lakh and Rs 82.37 lakh respectively.

The Audi Q3 Design Edition is only available with the 35 TDI badge at the rear. That means it is powered by a 2.0-litre, turbo-diesel engine that produces 183PS of power and 380Nm of torque. The power-plant comes mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, which routes the power to the road via Audi’s quattro all-wheel-drive system. Audi claims a top speed of 219kmph and a zero to 100kmph time of 7.9 seconds.

At Rs 40.76 lakh a pop, the Q3 Design Edition slots between the Premium Plus and Technology variants of the Q3 35 TDI, which are priced at Rs 39.68 lakh and Rs 42.88 lakh respectively. That simply translates to the Design Edition having all the features found on the Premium Plus variant and some. That some includes clear-lens taillamps, quattro decals on the side, a key cover that matches the exterior finish of the car and illuminated door sills. Inside the cabin, there’s Nappa leather upholstery and a coat hanger (nice touch!).

Over to the Q7 Design Edition. Unlike in the Q3, the Q7 Design Edition is available with both diesel (45 TDI) and petrol (40 TFSI) engines. While the former is a 3.0-litre turbo-diesel mill that produces 249PS/600Nm, the latter is a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol motor that churns out 252PS/370Nm. Both engine com mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and the quattro all-wheel-drive system. Audi claims a top speed of 234kmph and 233kmph for the diesel and petrol variants respectively. The 0-100kmph times in the same order are 7.1 seconds and 6.9 seconds.

As is the case with the Q3, the Q7 Design Edition is placed right between the Premium Plus variants, which cost between Rs 73.73 lakh (petrol) and Rs 77.90 lakh (diesel), and the Technology variants, which are priced at Rs 81 lakh (petrol) and Rs 85.18 lakh (diesel). Over the Premium Plus variant, the Q7 Design Edition gets smoked headlamps, Audi-emblem decals on the D-pillar, a cool bag with Audi branding and rear-seat entertainment.

So, there you have it. With the extended variant list, albeit temporarily, both SUVs are expected to attract more buyers. While the Audi Q3 competes with the likes of the Volvo XC40, which recently got its variant list expanded too, BMW X1 and the Mercedes-Benz GLA, the Q7 locks horns with the BMW X5, Volvo XC90, Mercedes-Benz GLE and the Land Rover Discovery.

Note: All prices mentioned above are ex-showroom India.
