Saar: The small hatchback will see a price hike by up to 3 per cent.

In what equates to an unusual announcement for us, Hyundai Motor India Ltd. (HMIL) will be hiking the prices of its Grand i10 hatchback only from next month. The price increase, which will be up to 3 per cent, will be across the model range. The company has cited the rise in input and material costs as the main drivers for this step.

So, why is this announcement unusual? Well, we can’t quite understand why only the Grand i10 is facing the hike in prices when the Xcent, the sub-4 metre sedan which is essentially the Grand i10 underneath, isn’t facing consequences of the rise in input costs. One of the possible explanations could be that Hyundai has a lot of stock for the model that competes with the Maruti Suzuki Dzire. If that’s the reason, expect Hyundai to hike Xcent’s prices in the near future.

Anyway, back to the Grand i10. The current price list (ex-showroom Delhi) ranges from Rs 4.74 lakh to Rs 6.97 lakh for the petrol variants and Rs 5.9 lakh to Rs 7.51 lakh for the diesel-fed ones. If we assume that the maximum hike of 3 per cent will be applicable to the most expensive variant (Asta Diesel), we’ll see a maximum bump in price by approximately Rs 22,500.

Hyundai Motor India To Launch Electric SUV In 2019

The petrol-powered Hyundai Grand i10 houses a 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder mill under the bonnet. It produces 83PS of power and 114Nm of torque. Hyundai offers a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic with this engine. However, the two-pedal setup is available only on the Magna and Sportz variants. The diesel-fed engine, on the other hand, displaces 1.2-litre of fuel in a 3-cylinder configuration. It produces 75PS of power and 190Nm of torque. Unlike the petrol motor, the diesel is only offered with a 5-speed manual transmission.

Needless to say, if you have had your eye on the Hyundai Grand i10, now is the time to get one booked. If you think otherwise, there are loads of products in the similar price range including the Maruti Suzuki Ignis, Toyota Etios Liva and the Ford Freestyle.
