Saar: There is still no word on when it will make its world premiere.

BMW’s unique way of teasing the upcoming models continues with the drop-top version of the next-gen Z4. After revealing the Z4 Concept in August last year, BMW has now shared a few pictures, a video and some technical details about its upcoming two-seater roadster.

Fourth-Gen BMW X5 Officially Teased… With Camouflage

As we saw in the concept vehicle, the production-spec BMW Z4 seems to have the basics in the bag. A long bonnet, short overhangs, two-sporty seats in the middle and with a touch of a button, the soft-top roof folds away. The taillamps look like a shrunken version of what the BMW 8 Series has. Half the size? Maybe! Because 8 divided by 2! Anyway, it is the range-topping test mule being thrown about to fine-tune the handling part, a vital ingredient in any sports car. It will wear the Z4 M40i badge at its butt, which BMW says, will be powered by a new in-line 6-cylinder petrol engine.

That powerplant will be accompanied by a lowered sports suspension (obviously!) with electronically controlled dampers, a new front axle and a set of ‘M’ lightweight alloy wheels with mixed-profile tyres. Other confirmed details include an ‘M’ sports braking system and an electronically controlled limited-slip differential. The whole recipe, as it should, sounds like a lot of fun. When we say fun, that, of course, means a lot of controlled sideways action around the bends. Needless to say, the BMW Z4 has been doing rounds at the ‘ring too. That’s something of a must-do activity for any carmaker who wants to roll-out a good handling car.

There is no word on when the new BMW Z4 will make its world premiere in its production-ready guise. But it will happen before the end of this year. Entry-level variants are expected to get a 2.0-litre, turbo-petrol under the bonnet and like their big brother, the M-powered Z4, will have an 8-speed auto doing the transmission duties.
