Saar: It is scheduled to break cover at the 2018 Paris Motor Show.

BMW has officially commenced the teaser campaign of the all-new 3 Series sedan. It is scheduled to break cover at the 2018 Paris Motor Show, which will open its gates on October 4, 2018. For this campaign, BMW captured a whole lot of pictures and a video while the sedan underwent its endurance testing at the Nürburgring, which is popularly known as the ‘Green Hell’. The company has also taken the opportunity to unravel a few details about its upcoming car.

The new BMW 3 Series sedan’s centre of gravity is nearly 10mm lower than its predecessor. What’s that? Well, 10mm equates to 1cm and a lower centre of gravity means the car will have a better grip on the move. The new 3 Series also have perfect 50:50 weight distribution on the front and the rear, which will help in delivering a well-balanced driving experience in exuberance mode. What’s more, the new-gen model weighs as much as 55kg less and has a more rigid body structure than its predecessor.

BMW says that the new 3 Series will house the most powerful 4-cylinder engine in the company’s history. Yet, the new model will be around 5 per cent more fuel-efficient, thanks partially to the loss in overall weight and a reworked 8-speed Steptronic transmission. The engine also comes equipped with particulate filters, which makes the motor complaint to the current emission norms across Europe.

A key component in how a BMW drives is the suspension setup. And the new 3 Series debuts a whole new tech in that department. Here’s how BMW has defined it – “The first ever lift-related dampers ever to be fitted in a BMW model function continuously and progressively in relation to the respective spring travel”. The idea is to deliver a sporty suspension setup which is also capable of cocooning the passengers when the driver’s behaviour is subtle. And yes, this new suspension tech will come part of the standard kit in all derivatives of the new BMW 3 Series sedan.

Inevitably, there will be an M3. It will ride 10mm lower than the rest of the 3 Series specimens. Additionally, it will come with 18-inch lightweight alloy wheels and mixed profile tyres. The M sports suspension will be offered solely in conjunction with the variable sports steering. Apart from delivering speed-related steering assistance, it also provides a variable steering ratio. There’s also an electronically controlled locking differential in the rear axle, which works in tandem with the car’s Dynamic Stability Control (DSC).

BMW is expected to put the new 3 Series on sale in Europe shortly after it makes its world premiere in France. Obviously, India will also get it but only by the first half of next year. Once it gets here, it will take on the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Jaguar XE, Volvo S60 and the Audi A4.
