What you see here is what you probably saw in May last year and didn’t bother looking at again. It is the X1 facelift, and today it has received a price list for India. Ranging between Rs 35.9 lakh and Rs 42.9 lakh, it retains the title of the least-expensive model with a BMW badge. As before, the compact SUV is available with petrol-AT and diesel-AT configurations, spread over three trim levels – xLine, SportX and MSport. Here’s the complete price list:

Before you wonder, there are no all-wheel-drive variants on offer anymore. The petrol-powered one wears the sDrive20i badge, whereas the remaining derivatives come with the sDrive20d tag. No matter which fuel option you choose, the X1 will come with a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine. The petrol-fed motor produces 189bhp/280Nm and comes coupled to a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox. The diesel mill, on the other hand, generates 188bhp/400Nm and an 8-speed Steptronic unit handles transmission duties. BMW claims that with the petrol engine, the X1 can hit 100kmph from a standstill in 7.7 seconds. That figure with the diesel mill under the bonnet is 7.9 seconds.

The entry-level SportX trim brings features such as LED-powered headlamps, automatic climate control, a multifunction steering wheel with a leather finish, panoramic sunroof, six airbags, auto start/stop function, a 6.5-inch infotainment system and tyre pressure monitoring system. The xLine derivatives rope-in additional gizmos like LED fog lamps, 6-colour ambient lighting, an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and a 5.7-inch MID. In addition to a more sporty outlook, the range-topping M Sport recipe also comprises of sports seats at the front, 18-inch alloy wheels (other get 17 inches) and a 205-watt, 7-speaker sound system.

So, there you have it. The X1 facelift arrives to renew the rivalry with the Volvo XC40 and the Mini Countryman. Soon, the all-new Mercedes-Benz GLA and the Audi Q3 will join the party. If you had to pick, which one would it be?
