After revealing Aura’s powertrain options in November 2019, Hyundai took the wraps off the car altogether the following month. Now, the carmaker has started accepting bookings for the sedan with a minimum token amount of Rs 10,000. You can reserve one by either paying online or by visiting the nearest dealership. If you want to wait for the official prices, January 21, 2020, is the car’s launch date.

Before you wonder, details regarding trim levels and colour options have surfaced as well. Both 1.2-litre engines borrowed from the Grand i10 Nios will be available with a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT (Automated Manual Transmission). As for the 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbo-petrol, only a 5-speed manual gearbox will be on offer. The table below shows powertrain-wise trim levels:

As far as the choice of colours is concerned, Hyundai has lined-up a total of six – Red, White, Silver, Grey, Blue and Brown. However, not all variants are available in all those shades. For instance, the only derivative available with the turbocharged petrol engine gets three colour options – Red, White and Silver. Similarly, the E trim level is up for grabs in just two paint shades – White and Grey. And no, there are no dual-tone paint jobs on offer with the Aura. That said, Hyundai might offer a few in the customisation section.

Although Hyundai hasn’t confirmed it, the Aura is most likely to share all its gizmos with the Grand i10 Nios. That means everything from an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, LED DRLs, dual-tone alloy wheels and a rear-view camera with parking sensors, to dual airbags, push-button start/stop, wireless mobile phone charger, automatic climate control and a projector fog lamps will be on offer.

In Hyundai’s hierarchy tree, the Aura will sit between the Xcent and the Verna. The former, like the Grand i10, should be reduced to petrol and petrol-CNG variants soon. The Aura, on the other hand, will put Hyundai’s case forward in the sub-4 metre sedan space. Once launched, the car will compete against the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Ford Aspire, Honda Amaze and the Tata Tigor. Do you think Hyundai has hit a sweet spot with the Aura?
