It was on the cards, wasn’t it! With India getting into the festive mood, Maruti Suzuki had to introduce something special to lure more customers. And what better platform to do so than the hot-selling Swift. The company is now offering a Limited Edition package with all variants of the hatchback. Opting for it will add Rs 24,990 to the car’s cost. Question is, will you?

The Limited Edition package injects a bunch of black elements outdoors and a couple of equally-dark enhancements indoors. If you pay that price mentioned above to the dealer, it will fit your Swift with a glossy-black garnishing on the front and rear bumpers, side skirts, bodyside moulding, front grille, and fog lamp, tail lamp and headlamp enclosures. Inside the cabin, the car comes with different all-black seat covers and a black steering cover. All-in-all, Maruti Suzuki has attempted to sporty-fy the Swift, which should attract younger buyers. And, all that added garnish is available for a limited period only.

As you’d expect, there are no mechanical changes to report. All of Swift’s variants come with the same 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine, which pumps out 82bhp/113Nm. It is available with both a 5-speed manual transmission or an AMT (Automated Manual Transmission). No matter which gearbox one opts for, the claimed mileage is 21.21kmpl.

The Swift will soon undergo a mid-life update, possibly by early next year. That will feature some extensive cosmetic changes, not just a body kit like Limited Edition introduced today. Also, expect Maruti Suzuki to add dual-fuel (Petrol and CNG) variants as well. That extension should take the sales figures even higher. In India, the Swift competes with the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and the Ford Figo. Both of Swift’s competitors are available with a diesel engine option as well. That’s something Maruti Suzuki won’t offer in the foreseeable future. Do you miss the diesel-powered Swift?
