Hyundai plans to launch a bunch of N Line models in India. And leading the pack is what we’ve got today – the i20 N Line. Prices start at Rs 9.84 lakh and go up to Rs 11.90 lakh. The hot-hatch is available in two trim levels – N6 and N8. Shared between them are six variants, and here’s how they’ve been priced:

Turbo-Petrol iMTRs 9,84,100Rs 9,99,100Rs 10,87,100Rs 11,02,100
Turbo-Petrol DCT--Rs 11,75,500Rs 11,90,500

To put things in perspective, the standard car’s Turbo-petrol iMT variants cost between Rs 9.92 lakh and Rs 10.07 lakh (in Asta trim). As for derivatives with the Turbo-petrol DCT combo, they vary between Rs 10.74 lakh and Rs 11.40 lakh (covering Asta and Asta (O) trim levels).

Powering the i20 N Line is a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that produces 118bhp and 172Nm of torque. You can have it coupled with a 6-speed iMT (clutchless manual gearbox) or with a 7-speed DCT. With the former, the car can deliver 20kmpl. That figure jumps to 20.25kmpl with the dual-clutch transmission.

Yes, the i20 N Line looks sportier than the standard car. Get all the dope about that here. But, there’s more than what meets the eye. For example, Hyundai has tweaked the suspension in a way that the car offers better high-speed stability. Also, the rear drum brakes have been replaced by discs.

As you’d expect, the standard list of features is pretty impressive. It includes an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, automatic headlamps, projector fog lamps, 16-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, tilt and telescopic adjust on the steering wheel and an electric sunroof. The N8 trim level dials in more stuff, such as a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Hyundai Blue Link (connected-car tech), 7-speaker Bose sound system, side and curtain airbags, LED projector headlamps with DRLs and red ambient lighting.

Hyundai’s offering the i20 N Line with up to 5 years of ‘Wonder Warranty’. What that means is that the buyer has the option to choose between three types of cover – 3 years/1,00,000km, 4 years/50,000km or 5 years/40,000km. Besides that, the car also comes with a three-year membership for roadside assistance.

So, there you have it. The Hyundai i20 N Line is finally amongst us. The real question is – would you buy it over a standard i20 with the same engine almost all the same toys? Or, would you ignore the i20 altogether and purchase something like a turbocharged Tata Altroz?
