Saar: When opted for, Volvo’s performance arm will add its magic to the engine, wheels, brakes, suspension and the ECU.

The all-new Volvo S60, which will be unveiled in a week’s time, has a lot of firsts going for itself. It will become the first Volvo product ever to be produced in the USA and also the first model to come without a diesel engine in its portfolio. Now, Volvo Cars has unveiled that the new S60 will also be offered with something called a Polestar Engineered package.

What is it? Well, since it has the term Polestar, it is ought to bring in some lunacy to the recipe. For the uninitiated, Polestar is to Volvo as AMG is to Mercedes-Benz and SVO is to Jaguar. But with the new Volvo S60, Polestar will work its magic on the twin-engine, wheels, brakes, suspension and ECU (engine control unit). No points for guessing, it will apply the know-how it gained during the development of its own hybrid powerplant for the Polestar 1 sports car.

Anyway, the Twin-Engine setup in the Volvo S60 T8 pumps out 400PS/640Nm as standard. With the Polestar Engineered package, those figures go up to 415PS/670Nm. Volvo claims that further tweaks in the ECU help improve the fuel consumption and refines automatic gear selection. The aforementioned performance figures are for the USA-spec Volvo S60 T8 Twin-Engine.

In terms of looks, the package brings in lightweight alloy wheels, golden-painted brake callipers, a bunch of Polestar emblems, black chrome exhaust pipes and golden seat belts. The brakes and the suspension are re-engineered to cater to the additional oomph and more importantly to make it feel a lot more exciting on the move. Volvo says that the strut bar and adjustable shock absorber design are shared with the Polestar 1 plug-in hybrid performance car. That says a lot about what to expect from the Volvo S60 T8 Twin Engine with Polestar Engineered package.

As a variant, it will sit above the R-Design trims. However, come next year and Volvo will also offer the XC60 and the V60 models with the Polestar Engineered package. That said, it will only be available in limited numbers.
