Saar: The event is slated to take place during the inauguration of Volvo’s first plant in the USA.

Good new Volvo fans! The all-new Volvo S60 will make its world premiere and launch in the USA on June 20, 2018. And instead of running a conventional launch event, the sensible Swedes have taken a rather different route. The compact premium sedan will actually be launched during the inauguration ceremony of the company’s first-ever manufacturing plant in the USA. The plant in question is built in Charleston, South Carolina and the Volvo S60 will be produced only at this facility, at least for the time being.

Volvo XC60 And S90 Will Soon Get XC90’s T8 Plug-in Hybrid Powertrain In India

Why not a full-blown event dedicated to the Volvo S60? Well, it isn’t the first time that Volvo has broken the tradition of launching a car the conventional way. The XC40, which will launch in India on July 4, 2018, was revealed at 2017 Milan Fashion Week and the V60 estate in the driveway of a suburban home in Stockholm. You can see what the company is trying to do, can’t you?! Yes, it doesn’t want to waste time and resources in big fancy launch shows. Instead, it wants to focus on gelling more with the end customer.

Back to the Volvo S60. We know that it will be built on the company’s SPA (Scalable Product Architecture) platform, which also does duty in the XC90 and S90 models. We also know that the new Volvo S60 will become the first car ever from the company to not have a diesel engine in its portfolio. In fact, it will only be offered with a range of petrol and plug-in hybrids powerplants. Later on, mild hybrids will also join the catalogue of the Volvo S60.

Volvo Auto India Targeting 10 Per Cent Share In Premium Car Space By 2020

It goes without saying that Volvo, with the way it is stomping on the premium car scene in India, will be bringing the S60 over as well. Since production of the new S60 is currently limited to just the one plant mentioned above, it will come to India as a direct import only. Once it does though, it will renew its rivalry with the BMW 3 Series, Audi A4, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and the Jaguar XE.
