Yesterday, we learnt that Maruti Suzuki had slashed prices of select models to pass on the benefits of corporate tax reduction. It seems that move ignited some spark in the Volkswagen India’s headquarters. To pass on the same benefits to its potential customers, the German carmaker has introduced Corporate Editions of the Polo, Ameo, Vento and the Tiguan. So, just the Passat left out? Why, Volkswagen?

Do not expect an answer to that! Let’s unravel whatever Volkswagen has bothered to share about these Corporate Editions. Only select diesel variants of the quartet are part of this move. Which ones? We do not know. What kind of benefits will they get? Volkswagen says: “The edition covers a suite of offerings comprising of attractive benefits on the purchase, servicing of the vehicle, accessories as well as loyalty benefits.” We do not know what to make of all that because none of it is quantifiable.

Volkswagen is giving away a 5-year warranty and a 5-year roadside assistance (RSA) membership with all diesel variants of the Polo, Ameo and Vento. In Tiguan’s case, both the 5-year warranty and RSA is available only with its Corporate Edition. This move should subside some apprehensions that consumers have for the future of diesel-fed models.

If you are thinking of getting a Corporate Edition of any of those models, hold on because there is a slight catch. Volkswagen’s Corporate Editions are available for corporate individuals as well as organisations across industries. The latter segment includes MSMEs (Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises), government employees, lawyers, architects and chartered accountants.

Do you fall in any of those categories? Good! If you are not sure what any of that means, we recommend that you get in touch with the nearest Volkswagen dealer and understand what those benefits are. The company has confirmed that the range of Corporate Editions will be available through its entire network of 132 sales touchpoints.
