How many more, seriously! Scribbling with Polo and Vento has been Volkswagen’s favourite pastime forever. We’ve received several special editions of both the cars. Now, with the festive period just around the corner, Volkswagen has introduced another set of glorified variants. They go by the name – Red & White. The Polo costs Rs 9.195 lakh, whereas the Vento has a price tag of Rs 11.49 lakh.

To conceive the Red & White Editions, Volkswagen took the Highline Plus AT variant of the Polo and Highline AT derivative of the Vento as base models. Then, it garnished them with sun blinds, a fender badge and contrasting (black or white) ORVM caps, spoiler and roof rail. The Red & White Editions are available in three colours – Sunset Red, Flash Red (only Polo) and Candy White. Indoors, there’s some flashy upholstery on the seats.

So, for all that glitz, how much extra is Volkswagen charging? Well, in Polo’s case, nothing. The Red & White Edition costs the same as Polo’s donor variant. And for the Vento, VW has actually brought back the Highline AT variant. Compared to the Highline Plus AT variant, the Red & White Vento costs about Rs 1.9 lakh less.

Mechanically, both special editions pack the same powertrain. The 1.0-litre TSI engine, which pumps out 108bhp/175Nm, comes coupled to a 6-speed automatic transmission (torque converter). As for the mileage, the Polo can go up to 16.47kmpl, whereas the Vento returns a maximum of 16.35kmpl. In terms of features, both cars come with a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, auto-dimming IRVM, cruise control, dual airbags, ABS, front fog lamps, automatic climate control, a rearview camera and rain-sensing wipers.

Volkswagen introduced the BS6-compliant (Bharat Stage 6) range of both the cars in March this year. In May, the models received TSI Editions which, as you’d expect, boasted some cosmetic enhancements courtesy of some stickers and contrasting paint jobs. In India, the Polo competes with models like the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Honda Jazz and Tata Altroz. The Vento, on the other hand, rivals the Honda City, Skoda Rapid, Toyota Yaris, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and the Hyundai Verna.
