Time and again, Renault has proved that India appreciates a wagon’s well-balanced recipe. It did that with the Kwid and the Duster (to some considerable extent). And when the brand introduced the Triber a couple of years ago, almost everyone knew that it would serve the needs of the mass-market well. Today, Renault has come with proof – the lifetime sales counter of the car in question has surpassed the 1-lakh mark.

That calls for a celebration! Indeed, says Renault. And that’s why it has introduced something called a Triber Limited Edition. To create it, the French carmaker took the RXT variants (yes, both of them) and garnished them with bespoke styling elements. Prices? The manual derivate costs Rs 7.24 lakh, or Rs 28,000 more than the standard RXT MT variant. So by that calculation, the Triber Limited Edition AMT should cost Rs 7.76 lakh (the standard one costs Rs 7.48 lakh).

Let’s get to the details. Inside, the Triber Limited Edition boasts Akaza Fabric upholstery and a dual-tone dashboard with a piano-black finish. On the outside, the three-row people-mover features 14-inch Flex wheels and an option for a dual-tone paint job (Moonlight Silver and Cedar Brown with black roof). But that’s not all, as Renault has also beefed up the safety quotient by adding side airbags (four in total) and a rear-view camera. Pretty neat!

Under the bonnet is the same 1.0-litre, three-pot petrol engine that produces 71bhp and 96Nm of peak torque. You can have it with a 5-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed AMT. For the record, both those engine-transmission combos are available with the Renault Kiger. The subcompact SUV even shares the chassis with the Triber. As a result, both models bagged a 4-star safety rating from Global NCAP.

The Triber sits in a sweet spot in the Indian market as it has no direct rivals at the moment. Suppose practicality and space were your main priorities while buying a new pocket-friendly car. Can you think of a better alternative?
