Saar: The company wants to perform some “necessary updates” for the 1.5-litre MT variants of the Vento and Polo GT models while replacing O-rings in the carbon canister for the Jetta 1.4 TSI.

The Indian arm of the German carmaker Volkswagen has initiated a voluntary recall campaign for three of its models – Vento, Polo GT and the now-defunct Jetta. For the models which are currently in production, only the 1.5-litre MT variants are being recalled. The company in a statement said that it wants to perform some “necessary updates” for the models in question. As far as the Jetta sedan is concerned, only the units with the 1.4-litre TSI engine are part of the recall campaign. For those, Volkswagen wants to replace the O-rings in carbon canister.

1.5-litre TDI Engine

Volkswagen India hasn’t shared the exact number of vehicles which will be part of the campaign. However, it did mention that for Vento, units manufactured from April 1, 2015, to March 31, 2016, will be recalled. Similarly, the Polo GT MT units produced between April 1, 2016, and March 31, 2017, are part of the campaign. As far as the Jetta 1.4 TSI is concerned, all units produced in the year 2016 will be recalled to complete the abovementioned replacement.

The 1.5-litre engine that’s offered with the Vento and the Polo GT is a diesel mill. While it is offered only with a 5-speed manual transmission with the hatchback, it is also available with a 7-speed DSG unit with the sedan. The said engine is a powerhouse, producing 110PS of power and 250Nm of torque.

Needless to say, the entire process of inspection and rectification will be carried at no cost to the customer. Volkswagen says that the entire process should take around 30 minutes. The company has requested the owners of the affected lot of cars to get an appointment from the nearest authorised dealership. If you aren’t sure about the manufacturing date of your vehicle, you can check whether your car is part of the recall campaign by entering the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on Volkswagen India’s official website. The said number is always part of the purchase receipt and the car’s registration certificate (RC).
