Saar: The models which are not covered under the add-on warranty packages are the 1.0-litre petrol versions of Polo and Ameo, Tiguan, new Passat (the current model) and the Beetle 1.4-litre TSI.

The Indian arm of the German carmaker Volkswagen has launched add-on warranty packages. It is an ad-hoc extension of the vehicle’s standard warranty, which is 2 years/unlimited kilometres, and the extended warranty which ranges up to 2+3 years/1.25 lakh km of cover. The add-on warranty package is available for up to 7 years of vehicles age or 1.25 lakh km on the odometer reading.

The add-on warranty will cover the car for a period of 1 year/20,000km only. If even after utilising the add-on warranty your car hasn’t breached either the 7 year or 1.25 lakh km marks, you can buy the add-on warranty for your car for the same abovementioned period.

All existing VW owners can avail this ad-hoc extension. However, the prerequisites are different for varied situations. Here’s the bifurcation:

  • For cars with standard warranty: Can be purchased from next day of expiry but within 7 years from the date of vehicle’s sale.
  • For cars with an extended warranty: Can be purchased 30 days before expiry or a maximum of 15 days post-expiry.
  • For used car warranty: Can be purchased post expiry but within 7 years from the date of sale.

All of the above criterions will only be considered if the odometer reading is less than 1.25 lakh km. The company has also stated that to qualify for purchasing the add-on warranty package, the vehicle must have undergone scheduled services as per guidelines in the vehicle’s service booklet. It is clear that Volkswagen is only willing to standby those vehicles which have been maintained well with regular services from authorised workshops.

Volkswagen has shared the price-list of add-on warranties for all models except the 1.0-litre petrol versions of Polo and Ameo, Tiguan, new Passat (the current model) and the Beetle 1.4-litre TSI. For other models, the cost of add-on warranties is dependent on when it is purchased. If the vehicle’s age is between 2 and 5 years, the approximate cost of the add-on warranty ranges from Rs 12,000 to Rs 50,000. However, if the age of the vehicle is more than 5 years and less than 7, the approximate cost goes up to land in the range of Rs 15,000 to Rs 62,000. Click on the link below for the price-list.
