In case you didn’t know, the Macan will go fully electric in its next generation. Before that happens, though, Porsche wanted to give the conventionally-powered model one last makeover. So, here it is – the Macan facelift. The range is down to three versions – standard, S and GTS. Yes, the Turbo variant has been shelved. Don’t let that put you off, as the refreshed crossover has a lot to offer.

Design changes first. There’s a revised front grille, a tweaked rear diffuser and reprofiled LED headlamps. That last one is standard across the range. As for the wheels, there are seven different ones to choose from. Depending on the variant, they start at 19 inches and go up to 21 inches in diameter. The GTS derivative remains true to its lineage. It flaunts multiple blacked-out elements and a more aggressive rear diffuser.

Changes inside the cabin are more substantial. The centre console gets a complete revamp. It gets rid of the analogue buttons and welcomes touch-sensitive controls with a haptic response. Even the gear selector has been put on a diet. As for the analogue clock, that is now a standard feature. Apart from those changes, Porsche’s offering the Macan with new upholstery options and the multifunction GT Sport steering wheel from the 911. Those opting for the range-topping GTS variant will get exclusive equipment such as 18-way sport seats, Race-Tex upholstery, Carbon interior package and GTS lettering in Python Green.

Coming to the mechanical stuff, the standard Macan features a revised 2.0-litre turbocharged engine producing 261bhp, about 20bhp more than before. Next is the Macan S, which houses a 2.9-litre twin-turbo mill with 375bhp on tap. Again, that’s about 26bhp more than the predecessor. The Macan GTS makes use of the same engine as the Macan S but packs more punch. With 434bhp on offer, it can help achieve a 0-100kmph sprint time of 4.3 seconds and a top speed of 272kmph (with the Sport Chrono Package). Those figures, in the same order, for the Macan S are 4.6 seconds and 259kmph. The entry-level version takes 6.2 seconds to complete the standard sprint and reaches 232kmph flat out.

All three variants come with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and an all-wheel-drive system. Porsche has also made the Macan GTS more agile by dropping the sport air suspension by 10mm and firming it up by 10 per cent on the front axle (15 per cent at the rear). The GTS Sport package ropes in 21-inch GT wheels with performance rubber, Sport Chrono Package and Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus.

The new Macan comes with 14 colour options, including new ones like Papaya Metallic, Gentian Blue Metallic, and Python Green for the Macan GTS with the GTS Sport package.

Porsche’s accepting orders for the new Macan, with deliveries expected to start in Europe from October 2021. Prices? The standard Macan starts at 62,917 euros in Germany, whereas the Macan S costs at least 71,723 euros. In GTS spec, the crossover starts at 88,264 euros. India will get the new Macan as well, but only after Porsche is done introducing it in more relevant markets.
