Earlier this month, Mercedes-Benz India introduced the S-Class Maestro Edition. One of the many highlights of that Luxo Barge was the updated Mercedes Me Connect system. That, and a lot more, has now made it to the 2021 GLC. As before, the company’s bestselling SUV in the country is available in two variants – 200 and 220 d 4MATIC. The former costs Rs 57.4 lakh, while the latter wears a price tag of Rs 63.15 lakh.

Since we’ve already touched upon the subject, let’s understand what the updated Mercedes Me Connect tech brings to the party. It offers integration with Amazon Alexa and Google Home. So, commands like, “Alexa, ask Mercedes to lock the car” or “ Hey Google, remind me to buy flowers”, will work. The system also packs the new Parking solution POIs (Point of Interests). As you might have guessed, it helps trace parking spaces in places like shopping malls and multi-story car parks.

Other new features on the updated GLC include a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with multiple pre-defined layouts, massage function for the front seats, a 360-degree camera and remote engine start. The GLC is also available in two new colours – Brilliant Blue and Tech Silver. There are no mechanical changes to report. That means the GLC 200 offers 194bhp/280Nm from a 2.0-litre motor, whereas the GLC 220 d 4MATIC has 192bhp/400Nm on tap. Both engines come coupled to a 9-speed automatic transmission, but only the diesel-fed powertrain gets Mercedes’ all-wheel-drive system.

Mercedes-Benz India has retailed over 8,400 units of the GLC till date. The SUV falls in the same segment as the Volvo XC60, Land Rover Discovery Sport and the BMW X3. Soon, the refreshed Audi Q5 will join the party which, unlike the Mercedes-Benz GLC, will make do with petrol power only. Mercedes-Benz India plans to land a total of fifteen products, starting with the new GLA and the A-Class Limousine.
