Alongside the world premiere of the Altroz premium hatchback, Tata Motors also took the wraps off the Altroz EV. As the name suggests, it is a battery-electric vehicle (BEV) and will be launched in India and international markets in the near future. Both iterations of the Altroz share Tata Motors’ ALFA-arc (Agile Light Flexible Advanced-Architecture) and both are dimensionally the same. At least, on the outside.

So, do we have a confirmed list of specifications? Well, sort of. It seems Tata Motors has given itself a set of target specifications and wants us to know what they are. The Tata Altroz EV is expected to be powered by a single electric motor which, through a single-speed gearbox, will power the front wheels. There is no word on the battery pack but the targeted range on a single charge is between 250 and 300km. What’s more, the Altroz EV expected to feature some kind of quick charging support which should replenish the battery from zero to 80 per cent in 1 hour.

In terms of looks, the Altroz EV will set itself apart from its conventionally-powered sibling with slightly different styling on the outside. The same formula will be carried on the inside too with most of the car functionalities displayed and controlled on a couple of touchscreen displays. What’s more, the Altroz EV is likely to offer more passenger room and a completely flat floor.

Tata Motors hasn’t commented on Altronz EV’s launch date. Compared to the Altroz with an ICE (internal combustion engine), the EV derivative will carry a considerably higher price tag. If it launches before the Tiago EV, the Altroz EV will become Tata Motors’ second product that produces no local emissions whatsoever. The first one was the Tigor EV which still can’t be purchased as a personal vehicle.
